A jacket is a garment covering the upper body. The term has different meanings in the world:
Undershirt
(an undergarment, usually worn under a shirt)

This is called a waistcoat the United Kingdom and many Commonwealth countries, or vest in the United States. It is often worn as part of formal attire, or as the third part of a jacket.
Other Vests
Vest May refer to other Outer garments, like the first sport a tank or sleeveless padded jacket popular for hunting, known as a hunting jacket. Another common variant is the fishing vest which carries a profusion of external pockets for carrying fishing. The doublet term is also used to refer to this sort of cloak without sleeves outdoors.
A sweater vest (American English) or rider (English UK)
This may also be called a sweater, a sweater, sleeveless or tank top (which may also refer to a type of sleeveless shirt).
