What causes my watches and jewelry to corrode?
All watches I wear are starting to corrode. I have a new Timex Christmas and the side that faces my hand is already rotten (no holes, rough spots metal pitted). My father has a Seiko and is correct. Whenever I wear new rings (nothing but gold or platinum), they begin to corrode and pit. Sometimes they turn black inside and where they touch my skin. Same for my father. Sometimes they will even turn my green fingers (my husband and I bought matching rings engraved Disney, mine went black and my finger was green and very good). All my earrings should be for sensitive ears or they are infected and black holes on the edges. Someone knows why this happens or what causes it? All I can do to save me from having to buy new watches ever six months – a year?
Sometimes your own perspiration causes metals to corrode. This has to do with the composition of your sweat. It's the same reason that jewelry is not gold turns green after a while.
